Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>There is a specific set of ordinances that govern the Business Improvement District (BID). Because the BID involves a self-imposed tax, it must be formally authorized and renewed by the Columbus City Council. The BID was originally created by Ordinance No. 99-42 in June 1999. Since Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 36-43) generally limits these districts to 10-year terms, the City Council must vote to renew it periodically. The most recent renewal was in n June 2024, the City Council passed a new ordinance to renew the BID for another 10 years, extending its operations through December 31, 2034. While the city passes the ordinance, the day-to-day management is delegated to Uptown Columbus, Inc. However, the city remains the "enforcer" for the tax collection side. If a property owner doesn't pay the BID assessment, it is treated like any other delinquent property tax under city law.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
